For my first Substack writing endeavor. “Pittsburgh as the prototype Successor Ideology cityscape” will explore how the transition from gritty, dirty, steel-mining town to high-tech, urban hipster, university-based town has ushered in a larger cultural ethos consistent with the Successor Ideology that has weakend the core identity & cultural strength of the city. I will argue this is reflected in the weakened standards for sports franchises in the city, among others. The paradox to be examined is how the Successor Ideology is emergent from the economic transition that, ironically, saved the city from the fate of many other Rust-belt cities that were dependent on the steel-industry.
If you live in a Rust-belt city, would love to hear if and how Wokeism has altered the cultural ethos and functional standards from your perspective.
